There is something so special about getting married in the mountains. Maybe it’s the views, the quiet, or the way the landscape makes everything feel a little more intentional. For Lili and Christian, The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel was the perfect place to begin their wedding day.
Perched high above the Blue Ridge Mountains in Landrum, South Carolina, Glassy Chapel is one of those wedding venues that feels incredible from the moment you arrive. With its glass walls and sweeping mountain views, the chapel allows the scenery to become part of the ceremony itself.
And while Lili and Christian’s wedding day came with a little bit of unpredictable weather, I think it made their photographs even more special.
A Cliffs at Glassy Chapel Wedding
Lili and Christian’s wedding day was filled with all of the things that make an intimate mountain wedding so beautiful.
Their ceremony took place at The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel, surrounded by their closest family and friends and the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond the glass.
One of my favorite things about photographing weddings at Glassy Chapel is that you don’t have to do much to create an incredible setting. The chapel itself is beautiful, but those mountain views through the windows make the entire space feel connected to the landscape.
For couples looking for a South Carolina mountain wedding venue, Glassy Chapel offers something really unique. It sits on Glassy Mountain in Landrum, South Carolina, and the chapel’s glass-enclosed design gives you those incredible mountain views without having to sacrifice the comfort of an indoor ceremony.
When the Weather Doesn't Go as Planned
The weather on Lili and Christian’s wedding day was a little unpredictable.
Rain would come through, lighten up, and then start again.
But instead of letting the forecast determine the entire day, we watched for those little breaks and made the most of them.
When the rain lightened up, we grabbed clear umbrellas and headed outside for portraits.
The clear umbrellas allowed us to embrace the weather instead of trying to hide it. The mountains were soft and hazy in the background, everything around us was lush and green, and the rain gave the photographs this beautiful atmosphere that you simply can’t recreate on a perfectly sunny day.
This is one of the biggest things I want my couples to remember when planning their wedding day:
You don’t need perfect weather to have beautiful wedding photographs.
You just need a little flexibility.
Sometimes that means waiting ten minutes for the rain to pass. Sometimes it means bringing an umbrella into your portraits. Sometimes it means letting the weather become part of the story.
And I think those are the photographs you end up loving the most.
Lili + Christian’s Mountain Wedding Portraits
After the ceremony, we took advantage of the light rain and beautiful view around Glassy Chapel for their portraits.
I love that their portraits don’t feel like we were fighting against the weather. Instead, the clear umbrellas became part of the photographs and helped tell the story of their actual wedding day.
There’s something about photographing a couple in the mountains when the weather is changing. The landscape feels a little moodier, the clouds sit low over the mountains, and everything feels incredibly peaceful.
For a Cliffs at Glassy Chapel wedding photographer, those mountain views are obviously a dream to photograph, but what makes a wedding memorable isn’t just the scenery. It’s the way the couple interacts with each other, the people surrounding them, and all of those little moments that happen throughout the day.
An Intimate Dinner at Hare & Hound
After their time at Glassy Chapel, Lili and Christian continued their celebration with dinner at Hare & Hound.
I love when couples choose to make their wedding day feel like a full experience rather than simply focusing on the ceremony.
After saying their vows and taking portraits together in the mountains, they were able to gather around the table, enjoy dinner, and celebrate with the people closest to them.
It was the perfect way to continue the day.
There’s something really special about an intimate wedding dinner. After all of the excitement of the ceremony and portraits, the day naturally slows down. Everyone gets to sit together, talk, laugh, eat, and actually be present with one another.
For Lili and Christian, their day flowed from the mountain views of Glassy Chapel into a beautiful dinner celebration at Hare & Hound.
